The “Cherry Trees” Blooming in Mid-January Turn Out To Be, Once Again, Just Regular Old Plum Trees, Famous for Early Blooming

This happens every year in Frisco. Ppl see plum blossoms and they look like cherry, so then they jump to the contusion that global warming has caused the cherry trees of their youth, which blossomed in April, to now blossom in January.

Yes the GW has had / will have an effect on waking trees up earlier than usual, but at this point it’s in terms of weeks and not months.

See for yourself – what color would you call this leaf?

Confusingly, the trees in Japantown are a mix of both cherry and plum, so you can see blossoms from January all the way to April.
